Why did you want to own a Monkee’s store?

As an avid shopper of a variety of Monkee’s stores, I saw a big value in the name “Monkee’s” as it relates to women and fashion.

What are the crucial things you have done to grow your business?

1. Community involvement, especially with Davidson College and in collaboration with local medical charities.

2. Social networking

3. Increased merchandise variety – varied price points and sizes were added in 2010.

How do you pamper yourself?

Retail therapy at Bergdorff’s, dinners out at FlatIron, 131 Main, or Pastis… and a great hair & make-up salon day at Perfect 5th Salon!

What three pieces of advice would you offer new store owners starting out today?

1. Have fun – owning a store requires a lot of time and energy. You will spend more time in your store with your employees than you will with your family in your home. You better have fun and love what you are doing!

2. Get Organized – office, store, store room, etc.

3. Don’t give up – Tenacity is critical to succeed.

What are your must-haves for Fall 2011?

This season’s must-have is a fabulous pair of slim bootcut or flared denim, paired with a grey or tan colored boot from Tory Burch… top it off with a simple tee/top and call it a day!
